Get To Know My Blog and I

Hello!  My name is Ashley Kvasnicka (kuh-vaz-nick-uh) and thank you for coming this far in my blog, TheNerdyBookmark (formally Kay_Reads)!  I recently fell into the hobby of book reviewing.  I’ve always left reviews sporadically throughout my time, I’ve always enjoyed it but because I live so far away from the people I grew up with, it has become harder and harder to share my opinions on things with physical people.  And if I’m being honest here, I am naturally a very opinionated person.  Big mouth, what can I say?  I have things to say and people are gonna hear it.  But reviewing books is different than reviewing objects.  I can usually get more in depth with my opinions on books, AND I LOVE IT!  So because of either a website’s word restriction, or purely because I don’t want to write a novel review on top of a novel via websites (because let’s be honest, people there don’t want to read all that nonsense – get to the point people), I’ve decided to dab in to the blogging world!  I’m doing this for me and for anyone who cares to read it.  These are my opinions and my opinions only.  I will not hold back.  I also will not apologize for any reviews that come across “offensive” or “rude” because their my opinions and there is no such thing as a  wrong opinion.  If you can’t take any and all critiques, then don’t put yourself out there for the world to judge.  Along with mostly book reviews, I’ll probably throw in some other book related topics to break it up a bit as things come along.  I would like to state that I am by no means a professional writer, reviewer or editor of any kind (also goes for my pictures – I suck at taking pictures).  I will fact check anything I point out, unless I state otherwise, but all in all, this is something I am doing for fun.  SO STAHP IT!

A quick little insight into my bookish life:  I work at Barnes & Noble (FUN FACT:  B&N was founded in Wheaton, IL – hometown of my husby — FUN FACT #2:  Now you know I’m married 😀 ) and I love my job.  More specifically, I work in the cafe.  IT IS NOT A STARBUCKS.  Starbucks is just a vendor for us.  We are owned by the bookstore, we are apart of the bookstore, we are Barnes and Noble Cafe.  I do still support local bookstores and such so to all the B&N haters out there, don’t you worry, I give love to all books!  Some of my favorite genres (if you could not already tell by my header) are: YA, Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Middle Grade!  I do enjoy a good horror story every now and then, but not the cheesy, super predictable, “oh my god, my floor boards creaking again!!” so.. I only touch those every once in a blue moon.  Same with Auto Biographies and just about every other genre.  I will read just about anything but I am more skeptical of the other genres.  Also, I’m a book cover snob.  Not sorry.  If you’re gonna put that much effort into a great story, put that much more into the cover.  DRAW ME IN WITHOUT ME EVEN KNOWING WHAT THE STORY’S ABOUT!  It’s SUCH a great advertising tool and so simple and AH!  Please take your time on your cover!  I have been reading since I was a child.  I read a lot back then, went psycho during my teenage years but still held a book once in awhile, moved about 8 times and now I’m back to my roots.  I’m all settled in and my book addiction has sparked up again!  My love of books also stems from every creative part of my bones.  I love film, art, video games, animals, fantasy everything… all of this summed up into one category: DORK.  Everything I was bullied for when I was younger (which fed the psycho teen angst phase) has resurfaced and I HAS NO SHAME! <– this did not happen yesterday FYI.
